I recently completed this painting of a sunset taken by Paula Ann at South Parade Pier in Southsea. She gave me permission to use her photo to paint. The original photo had 883 likes and 100 shares.
The stunning colours are what draws you in as well as the silhouettes of people walking together on the beach, but keeping their distance from each other during lockdown due to Covid restrictions. It has an element of Lowrie and a dash of Turner.
I painted this on a 28 x 35 cm canvas panel using acrylic paint and acrylic medium for extra paint flow. It was difficult to get the reflection of the wet sand and the ferry in the background to show up, therefore I ended up changing the painting several times to get it to how I wanted it.
